Mounting rollfilm backs on 4 by 5 cameras - Danger

I have several rollfilm backs for my Speed Graphic. I always remove the Graphlok
back to use them. Removing the back takes approximately one second. The rollfilm
back mounts easily with a couple of sliding tabs. It is very easy.
There are several good reasons NOT to force the rollfilm back under the ground
glass: (unless it is of the Calumet type - designed to slide under the ground glass)
1) The back will press hard against the ground glass. It may break it.
2) Worse, you may force it out of alignment. If this happens, next time you focus
on the
ground glass and then insert a film back - the image on the film will be out of
focus.
3) You may weaken the spring.
Cut film holders, Polaroid backs are designed to fit under the ground glass. They
only make contact with the frame of the ground glass back, not the glass itself.
Take a good look at your roll film back and see if this is the case.
Many large format and "technical" cameras (like the Horseman 980/VH) have
a Graphlok-like back. The same applies.
