Usually a visit to a used camera store will yield either a free or very
cheap back (I think they're the same for many different Nikon bodies, but
don't quote me on that). Just see if they have a body that has been trashed
(like a broken mirror or lens mount.

I never noticed the rectangle problem until I started using a B+W 092 (87C)
filter and shot bright scenes.
