Interesting surplus?

No idea if this is good enough to take a picture through, but it
might be interesting to people trying to make an IR light source:
American Science & Surplus lists a 5-3/4 inch diameter, 1" tall,
domed glass filter, made in Germany, visually black, but supposed
to transmit IR.  No specs, of course, but only $24.50.  Military
surplus is all they say about the source.  My first thought was
that it would be the beginning of a good IR flood light....

http://www.sciplus.com/, but the filter doesn't appear to be in
their on-line catalog.  Print catalog no.27816.  I've emailed to
ask if they have any more info on it.
