What a load of unprocessed fertilizer!! Cameras, various focal length
lenses, filters, burning and dodging a print, and yes, even computers, are
all tools to allow us to provide an image--either for ourselves or for a
client.

I recently did an ad for an oil well drilling bit...the essence of the ad
was an Olympic theme so I had the drill bit on a podium with a gold medal
on a ribbon around it. On the adjacent podiums I had a silver and bronze
medal with similar ribbons. And a snowy mountain scene in the background.

With the computer I was able to clean up the edges of the podiums (podia?)
which had been chipped and was able to make them perfectly aligned. The
computer also allowed me to lengthen them. The medals were ones I had won
for various photographic competitions, and all had cameras of one sort or
another as the design in the centre. I was able to remove them and add a
jewel instead. There was a bit more cleaning up, and then I added the
mountain scene behind.

Did I need a computer to do all this? You bet your bippy I did! What
probably would have taken days, if not weeks to do, I was able to do in a
couple of hours. This saved my client money, took a fraction of the time,
and produced an excellent product. The downside?... THERE ISN'T ONE!

Intelligence is just that...INTELLIGENCE! It's knowing what tool to use to
produce the results you want. Why use a wrench (that's a 'spanner' in the
U.K.) to hammer in a nail when there's a much better tool to do the same
job. I often tell people that the most important accessory in taking any
picture is what's behind the camera.

I'll get off my soapbox now...
