IR and plasma discharges

I need the help of the group with an unusual situation: I am going to be
photographing a Tesla coil display. The coil generates electrical arcs over
5 feet in length, and they are quite bright. But they are "cold" discharges
as opposed to lightning, which can reach temperatures into the thousands of
degrees.
My problem is this: since the arcs are bright white/blue, and are physically
cold, will there be enough IR to register on IR film with a #87C filter? Or
am I likely to see only visible light (I mean visible to us -- don't anyone
start that "light has to be visible to be light" thread again!).
Thanks,
Theo
