You're on the right track, David, but I had to comment about the Konica "IR"
film.

[Theo Benson] The canister is safe, as all metal is light-tight (at
least until we develop Star-Trecky stuff like transparent aluminum (that's
aluminium to everyone outside the U.S.). It's the felt trap that is not
light-tight. In a pinch, you can load or unload Kodak HIE in subdued light,
but plan on losing the first few images.

[Theo Benson] Konica's light trap is the same as everyone else's.
The difference is that Konica is not very sensitive into the IR range. I
have a colleague who shot a whole roll with a #87C filter, and the entire
roll ended up as unexposed! After much discussion with Konica, it was
reluctantly revealed that the IR range is "quite limited," and the #87C,
which cuts-off very well below the IR range, was keeping out all the light
the Konica film could respond to.
Admittedly, I haven't used Konica film yet, but I plan to in my
Mamiyaflex (only because HIE doesn't come in 120).
