Density changes?
I am getting used to various anomalies with IR film, some caused by me,
some in the manufacture and some just inexplicable. Now I have hit a
new one. I just finished developing a roll of 70mm HIE and noticed that
the density of the negs at the beginning was much greater than those at
the end of the roll. I looked along the roll and found one frame (6x7)
where the density changed 1-2 stops in mid frame. The film was shot
with a leaf shutter camera (Graflex XLSW) so I know there was no shutter
curtain problem. There is also nothing internal that would cause this
but there was a vertical line about 5 mm wide that looked like tape had
been applied over the emulsion before exposure. The density changed
right at that line and the rest of the roll was fine but the first
frames were greatly over exposed. The fact this changed in mid scene
makes it obvious this was a film problem not processing or camera. Has
anyone seen anything like this? If it would help I can print this frame
and email it to anyone interested. I have never seen this with any film
before.
