Re: My Infrared Photos

Jerry, I went to your website today
          http://people.we.mediaone.net/eakes/default.html
and wanted to comment about a few of your images. In particular, I
spent the most time at "hatteras2" and "lax". These are very powerful
compositions and I'm sure would attract me regardless of the film used
but are extra dramatic with the IR.

I really dig the variety of places and ways you are willing to use the
IR in your camera. Most of the use of this film seems so intent on
making wonderful artsy landscapes or nudes (yes, me too) that it's
easy to forget about the kinds of things we would usually choose to
photograph, just because we have this mysterious IR on board. I'm for
using it everywhere when I use it, in the way that I normally shoot.
I think that way the images have my signature as much as the films
     signature. End of lecture.

Also of interest to me were your "owensval4" and "owensval5", finding
the horizontal composition of #5 more appealing. These have the
smooth, rich textures and tones of the better photos I've seen from
the Smokies. Isn't this stuff great in high altitudes?

"Redrock2" is a wild scene with those strong foreground elements that
I appreciate in rough landscapes. By the way "redrock2" and
"redrock4" are mixed up on your thumbnails. You might want to use the
old "sharpen" tool on all the thumbs. They are hard to zero in on and
yes I'm wearing my specs today. And hey, why reduce the image sizes?
They are crisp and look great. I wish my scans would hold up to
bigger sizes. I print them 16x20 with no problems but can't get a
scanned image to look decent over 5".

Out of curiousity are any of the portraits of yourbadself? "redrock1"
has tons of attitude. I love it!

     I'm done. Enjoyable website. Thanks
