KODAK EIR: description of resolving power

Could any specialist be so kind to explain me the following description as
found in the KODAK technical data sheet for their EIR film :

Image Structure:
Diffuse rms Granularity: 17 Fine
Read at a gross diffuse visual density of 1.0, 48-micrometre aperture.

What is a diffuse RMS granularity ? Is '17 fine' some known class ?
Could this be used as a theoretical measure of the resolving power ?

Thanks a lot, Tom
