Ilford SFX 200 and D19 -- development time

  • Subject: Ilford SFX 200 and D19 -- development time

Here is the development time I have come up with for exposure metered at
200 ISO in camera, with a 29 red on camera.

9 minutes with D-19 1:1.

Bracketing one stop in each direction from 200 ISO indicated exposures
showing only slight negative density variation post-processing. This is
consistent with the ease with which this film may be pushed or pulled
with more traditional developers.

Overall, this film, with D-19 shows wonderfully fine grain and beautiful
tonality. Unfortunately, D-19 did not apparently substantially increase
contrast. (The effect is similar to what one sees with Agfa APX25
developed in D19)

I found the "wood effect" I enjoy so much with Kodak HIE, greatly
reduced with SFX 200. Skin tones also were less "lightened" than one
would find in comparable imagery shot with HIE.

When processed in HIE, this film (shot outdoors, as in this test -- I
have not shot SFX in studio) seems to have the potetial to serve as a
great general portraiture film.

Hope someone finds this of use...
