I agree with some of the thread comments, that it may be best just to
suffer the xray and pray! why?, see below. The only alternative is to
purchase mail order, which will probably mean the products will receive
a higher level of xray exposure.

I went through Heathrow Terminal 2 last week and asked for a hand search
as I was carrying a box of A4 Sheet film and some 120 size Konica 750
IR. I persisted that it must be hand searched despite strong opposition
from the machine operators that all was safe. I had that day read a UK
article that came from the BAA saying they would do all they could to
help comply with hand search requests, I even presented the
Eventually they allowed a hand search. This started with a metal
detector test on the Sheet film, which failed (it was wrapped internally
in foil a fact I did not know as I had not used this brand before). The
Konica 750 were all opened by simply ripping open the packets, no chance
of being able to reseal neatly. Then the worst bit, I was told that they
must open the sheet film to verify the contents!! The chief inspector,
said that we could do that in the shade !!! I protested vigourously that
this was nothing short of stupidity as the box was only 8mm thick very
light and was factory sealed, and I had today's fully itemised receipt
from a reputable photgraphic dealer. I was repeatedly given no option,
this moron wanted to see the film. At that point I was really torn to
decide whether to opt for an xray, or let this Airport fool fog my film
as his revenge for my insistence on being hand searched. I eventually
opened the box and really did have to stop this man looking into the
foil wrapping. I assured him I would take the matter further, at which
point he requested my full details, humm! His closing words were along
the following lines.

Anyway, if there was a problem with xrays all my staff would be
ill wouldn't they.

How can such ignorance be employed as head of a very busy baggage xray
unit. Do the BAA raelly not provide basic physics knowledge to their
staff. The very idea of this man that we could open sheet film "in the
shade".

I will be complaining to the BAA and will let you all know their
response.
