RE: HIE and T90
As I work in the field of plastics, I tried to find some information
about the usual "IR transmission of plastics" question.
Well, though it is quite difficult to find absorption curves for near IR
which is used for photography, our IR measurement specialist here in the
lab told me the following:
- - pure (this means more or less white) plastics can show a certain IR
transmission, depending on the polymer nature and on the thickness.
- - If it is black or dark colored, there is 99.99 % chance that it
contains carbon black as a pigment, which clearly stops IR even when
used in very small amounts.
So, the conclusion is: if it's black it's OK, if not you have to check.
Hope this is helpfull,
Vincent
PS: BTW, about this X-ray saga: I just red in a french magazine that in
France they are trying to promote a poster which would be displayed in
airports to tell you that you should keep your films in your cabin
luggage instead of your checked luggage, to avoid any problem.
