A copyright notice is not required to be included on the
photograph in any country that has signed on to the Paris
Convention or GATT treatys (which includes virtually every
developed country).  In addition, the fact that he did not know that
the photograph was protected is of no moment.  Knowledge is not
required for direct copyright infringement.

Wrongo! I'm a bit fuzzy on international copyright law, but in the
U.S., a
copyright notice isn't required to protect something. If you took it,
it's
yours. A copyright is almost automatic here. By the way, I don't for
a
moment believe that this guy added the notice because of
inquiries about how
the images were made. I wonder who tipped him off? Certainly not
the
negative feedback individual I emailed. Judging from their
comment on eBay
they apparently wouldn't whiz on him if he were on fire!
What annoys me so much is not that he "pinched" the images, but
that he is
so arrogant to imply that someone's alleged carelessness is
sufficient to
justify the theft to begin with. Talk about blaming the victim!
