the only other thing I can think of, is there was some discussion earlier on this list (within the past few weeks) that Kodak had admitted problems with pinholes and emulsion problems on its HIE (B&W IR). of course being the internet, don't know what to make of the source. have this problem with other emulsions?

of course my problem is the chlorine in the water. I know better than to drink the water here. parts of the state are thought of as the third world for good reason.

My water is hard enough that using bleach in the laundry
generates rust spots on clothes, and the shower head needs an
acid dip two or three times a year to unclog it.  So I've had
plenty of experience with water spots.

Some time ago I gave up on trying to keep a squeegee clean and
supple enough for film, and instead, after a soak in PhotoFlo in
distilled water, I wipe down my negatives with a piece of
photowipe moistened in distilled water.  Since I started doing
that I haven't had another water spot or a single scratch from
wiping the film.

(After wiping it down I hang the film in a home-made negative
dryer, a length of 6-inch diameter water pipe with a 40W bulb at
the bottom for convection heating and cloth air filters top and
bottom.  Works great for avoiding dust spots, provides good,
fast drying, and cost less than $10 to make.)
