[Theo Benson] Bernie: unless a lab is totally negligent about
keeping their processing machines clean (and I've seen a few) they all do
E-6 the same. The problem is this: some labs have machines that use IR
position sensors that will fog IR film. Many others keep their machines in a
darkened room and the operators use IR night vision goggles to load film or
inspect operations (and the IR goggles have IR light sources on them -
again, fogged film).
I simply ask the lab if they can do EIR. Many simply do it as the
first (or last) run of the day, when they can do without the night vision
goggles for a while. My technique is to ask them if they "process Infrared
EIR." If they say "Huh?" go elsewhere.
