I too shot Canon EOS cameras and lenses with IR (have 3 EOS 620 bodies).
Have been shooting Canon for years (A-1 & F1N with manual FD as well).
Not all of the new EF lenses have a distance scale (the less expensive
ones). Also, many of EF lenses don't have the red IR focus spot mark on
them any longer, even if they do have a distance scale.
Also, many of these Canon EF lenses have different focus methods, internal,
rear, etc. I always make sure that all of my Canon EF lenses have both a
distance scale and the red IR focus spot mark.
Canon has just seemed to drop these features from their lower end EF lenses,
so I just pay a bit more to make sure that these newer EF lenses in my bag
can do the things that all of my old FD lenses can do, as to my being able
to determine accurate manual focus points.
Regards, Ken

You'd be surprised to know that my EOS even focus decently through an
#87C filter....;-))
However, focus accuracy in terms of IR-correction is a confusing
topic....Andy Davidhazy and I once compared some test results, and
while his lens focused in the right direction, one of mine went the
other way. Don't ask, I don't know why, nor have I seen more
conclusive experiments....;-))
