Bio & Comments (Part 2)
- From: Edward Rymes <edwardry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Bio & Comments (Part 2)
- Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 14:01:28 -0700 (Mountain Standard Time)
Well I finally found out where I went wrong with my first bio
submission... I wrote it from my personal e-mail and I subscribed with
my work address... that Major Domo guy didn't like that.
Name: Ed Rymes
Profession: Linear Accelerator Technologist
Country: Canada ( Calgary, Alberta)
History: Have been shooting seriously off and on since 1974 (serious
meaning SLR). I have been trying IR for only a little more than a
year or so. At this point in time I have my darkroom work done by
someone else... partly until I get a darkroom going and partly to
minimize the number of things that can go wrong when trying something
new.If the film processing and printing are consistent then any
problems are at the camera(and me).
Preferred Subjects: Everything and anything although my favorites
include nature, scenic, travel, airshows(I'm retired airforce) and
rodeos. My IR subjects are mostly in the scenic category with barns
lakes and mountains although I would like to explore "environmental
nudes" in the future.
Materials: Conventional films include Fuji Velvia, Astia, Agfa RSX,
Scala, Optima and Portrait, Ilford XP2 and Kodak's E100 series(75% of
my shooting are with the first three). My IR film of choice is Kodak
HIE with Ilfospeed paper.
Format: Strictly 35mm now( I'd have trouble packing in a view camera
into the Rockies;-} )
Hobbies: Hiking, canoeing and flyfishing although the tripod has
been packed more often than the flyrod lately...
Webpage: Not yet.
Expanding on photography: Although it can be frustrating at times
when the light doesn't work or the composition isn't right, I find
photography the best medicine for the soul and sanity. I must also
say that I find this listserver to be quite informative and full of
good links to excellent examples of IR work.
Questions: I always have questions...
- When shooting EIR (false colour) is the focus normal or
with the IR dot?
- All my IR stuff so far has been outdoors where I use f16,
1/60 as a starting place on sunny days and work from there.
Next month I want to try HIE at a hotlight figure study
workshop. Any pointers or tips on this subject? Where do I
start on exposure( no pun intended)??
- Has anyone shot HIE in the winter( Canadian style winter
with snow, ice, no leaves and 20 degrees)? Any tips?
Thanks
