Re: Ilford SFX 200 film

Thanks to all who responded to my sfx200 information request. I believe
that sfx200 isn't IR enough for what I want to do (err... to achieve the
effect). I believe I am going to try using Konica 120 and Kodak135 to start
with. I asked this question because I would like to select the appropriate
"tool" for the job.

While shooting a roll of Kodak IR, I did some pretty thorough shifting of
the shutter speeds against my meter readings to try to get a better feel
for getting the correct exposure on film (daylight landscapes). My only
reservation about the Kodak film is the developing aspect. Apparently there
are some additional hazards in the development of Kodak IR as pointed out
by George Smyth (thanks!). I am just now getting comfortable with
developing B&W film and I am somewhat leery of developing the IR film
myself (...at least to start with). This will allow me to concentrate on
getting correct exposures with the film without having to worry about dark
room errors (luckily there is a photo lab locally that can handle IR,
expensive but reliable).

Once I am more comfortable with the film I will try some at home developing
of IR.

Thanks again

David Lee

My comments were meant to be 'pro' the film. It isn't an IR film and people
should not complain that it isn't, or wish that it was. All the IR and
extended red films have their own characteristics and one should choose the
right one for the job , as the previous analogy with tools suggested. It's
great for the right job - and poor for the wrong one.
