Besides Xtol 1:1, you might try Kodak's Microdol-x, which is their fine
grain developer. You might also try Crawley's FX5:
Water at 125F 750ml
Metol 5g
sodium sulfite anhydrous 125g
Borax 3g
Boric Acid 1.5g
Water to make 1 liter
Develop undiluted for 10-15 minutes at 68*
You might also try a modified version of Crawley's FX2:
Stock Solution A
Metol 2.5g
sodium sulfite anhydrous 35g
Glycin 7.5
water to make 1 liter
Stock solution B
water 600ml
Kodalk 150g
water to make 1 liter
Make a working solution of 75ml A plus 75ml B and water to make 1
liter. Then add (and desolve) 30 to 60 grams of salt in the developer.
Finally, PMK will mask the grain somewhat. When I used it for HIE I
needed a development time of around 20 minutes.
I hope this helps,
Peter De Smidt
