HIE vs. HSI

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject...

Would somebody please explain to me why Kodak, in their infinite wisdom,
decided that the same emultion needs different names?

First you have 35mm "HIE" (just what does HIE stand for?).
Then the 4x5 version is dubbed "HSI" (acronym makes sense).
And let's not forget that the 70mm version is called: "Infrared Aerographic
Film 2424."

Now on to other late night ponderings...
