Pinholing
Hi all,
I have (on more than one occasion) been one of the HIE pinhole recipient
brigade.
I will admit that they have been lessened, but not wholly eliminated, by my
using a "water" stop bath.
I have just been re-re-reading Anchell and Troop's "Film Developing
Cookbook" (IMHO a MUST for every darkroom) and came across their mention of
TF-3 alkaline fix (which is primarily recommended for a staining developer
processes). While I had read of it before, it suddenly occurred to me that
this might be the elixor 'du liberation' for those enjoying HIE and sheet
HSI film, but who still get the occasional pinhole in the worst possible
place.
TF-3 and TF-4 fixers are apparently the "trade" name for Photographer's
Formulary alkaline proprietary fixers which allow for short 2 to 5 minute
wash times for archival processing... a boon to those on a limited clean
water supply.
Ken
ps. "The Film Developing Cookbook" by Stephen G. Anchell and Bill Troop is
published by Focal Press, ISBN #0-240-80277-2
pps. They do make mention of an alkaline stop bath in one of the appendices.
