The possibility of his having a filter with significant "red" leakage is
indicated. This became evident when I looked at a couple of his photographs
taken directly into the sun ... where the sun's disk had so overexposed the
film that it was in fact white. It is surrounded by a halo of red/pink color
indicating significant red leakage.
It would be interesting to see the spectral transmission curves for the filter
he is using. In any case, a better technical explanation for the results he
shows would be good to see.
