Sounds more than fishy to me....nearly any other camera has no 
problems with this, regardless of plastic material or film window.
I actually have yet to see the first _first-hand_ report about a 
camera leaking IR this way.

I would indeed test it first, without any precautions like taping the 
back....way too many IR urban myths have been continued this way, 
without solid proof of harm otherwise.
