Re: IR and night photography

I have tried a little bit of basic astrophotography with EIR and my initial
results have not been very impressive. Everything seems to come out as
washed-out blue color, the resolution is not great, and the grain really
shows itself in the expanse of sky. If you want to try it, star trails can
be photographed using long exposure (>20 minutes) and stopping down.
Constellation patterns are best photographed by using a wide angle or
normal lens, stopping down to the next aperture from wide open, and using a
fairly short timed exposure. Exposures longer than about 25 seconds for a
24 mm lens or 15 seconds for a 50 mm lens will give observable trailing.
Basic techniques can be found in several astronomy books including
"Nightwatch" and "Splendors of the Universe."
