I think the reason for the confusion is probably that the 800 ISO setting
is for a camera's TTL meter that is metering through the red filter,
whereas the 50 ISO setting is for a separate meter which is not having to
meter through a filter at all. FWIW I found the 800 ISO setting worked well
with a Nikon 801s with a no 25 red filter, and I would normally use ISO 50
or thereabouts with the handheld meter used alongside a non-metered camera
with the same filter on the lens.
