Assuming that the newer NightShot cameras still work about the
same as mine, turning on NightShot mode automatically puts the
camera in black and white, so the red image won't be a problem.
The cameras can not only see through an 87C, but even an 87A,
with a cutoff around 1000nm. (I use some of WJ's 87A polyester
filter mounted in a standard UV filter.)
The camera definitely gives a strong IR effect, but it does not
duplicate the halation of HIE -- in adequate light, the image is
just as sharp as the camera's standard output, without halos on
highlights.
Still, it's a great way to get a feel for what a scene will look
like in infrared. And it inadvertantly alerted me to a fungus
attacking my apple tree, too -- the leaves with the fungus were
much darker in IR than the healthy ones.
