Gary,

I guess then that Technidol is one of the Rodinal type developers but
increases the effective film speed through increased action of the
developer on the shadow areas. This would account for the greater range of
midtones using these developers.

It seems that Rodinal does not increase effective film speed from the data
available, however it also produces a better range of midtones.

Hmmm - it's the empiricist coming out in me again, maybe better to simply
accept the results and do more printing rather than worry about it too much
:-)
