Light damage to Konica 750? Need advice!

I always load and unload my IR film in the dark...  when I dropped off my 
 Konica roll, the guy opened up the plastic tube-thing and took the canister 
 out to read the info on it...  and I was kinda shocked so I said isn't it 
 going to damage the film because you just took the canister out in the 
light? 
  And he said no and just went on with his business...  I've taken it to this 
place like 5 other times and never had a problem but should I be worried?  I 
went all around the state with this film and if it was damaged from him doing 
 that I'd die so I'm concerned...  it was a pretty well lit room...  What do 
 you think?  Is it going to be damaged?
