lab processing E-6 film
and handing back to you totally blue, or green
transparencies suggesting that
something was wrong with the yellow or magenta layers.

Labs can easily "blow out" the IR layer. Most
automatic E-6 development machines have IR sensors
that are used to replenish the chemical solutions. My
first roll of EIR came back with a ugly red tint over
the entire roll, except for the last inch of the film,
which was normal. Some "know it all" at their lab said
they knew how to develope IR films. Evidently they
didn't. Ever since then I've developed my own E-6 IR
films. Although I don't save any money, I have the
peace of mind knowing that if my film comes out poorly
it was my fault.
