Apologies for resending a message by mistake.
I was just going to point out that the HIE film base does not exhibit
a special optical fibre effect more than any other clear film base. It
is simply that the whole film structure is transparent to light so
if a rewound 35 mm HIE cassette is exposed to light, in my experience,
the light simply illuminates the inside of the cassette. This results
in dark lines (light from the slot)appearing on the processed film at
spacings equal to roughly the circumference of the wound reel of film,
when inside the cassette. The lines get gradually fainter as they get
nearer to what was the centre of the film cassette.
