If you are interested in tracking the life of the developer then simply
take the leaders you clip off the film and do dunk tests before processing
each time. Its best to use the same kind of film each time. Dip it in and
record how long it takes for density to start showing. After you acquire
fair amount of data you can correlate this to how much time to add to the
developing time for accurate development or tell if you have reached the
throwaway point. I've done this with Tmax film and developer and it seems
fairly accurate.
