Hi Otto,
For take the shot with 87C the camera need (I think) 1/8 sec.
For use the LCD to preview the IR scene....I go to experiments ! but I think
is not possible, because the image after the download in computer is very
very dark ! then I think the LCD preview is possible but it's dark view.

And for filter thread...not the camera not have a filter thread. For this
shot (is shoteed from my kitchen window), I have set the zoom from 35 to
40mm (I think), I've lay it on the window-sill, next I've set the self-timer
and the filter near on camera, Click
