This is contrary to my experience. In bright daylight with 89B (B+W 092 to
be exact), the film could be exposed according to EI 12-25. That enables
you to use 1/125s at f/5.6, which with many lens/subject combinations is
enough for sharp handheld photography.

If others have different experiences, my filter might have unusual
transmission characteristics for an 89B, but it certainly is next to
completely visually opaque.
