A thing I found that helps with changing bag's is to put a box with the top cut off in the bag. This gives you a lot of room to work and the fiber of the bag does not touch the film, holders or camera. It is like using one of the tent bags. Its a big help with 8x10 holders. I wonder how a tent bag would work with infrared. Does enyone know? If you have a bag that you know is safe for infared the box would be a big help. I have used this for years on location. Keith,

The only other option in the UK seems to be the KJP bag which of course is
the same as the Calumet bag in the USA as KJP is the parent company of
Calumet. From memory, the bag is more expensive than the Jessops variety
and I have the feeling that it is not guaranteed to be Infrared light
tight/proof.

This is more of an issue for loading HSI 4x5 than for HIE. I have a very
old bag made in England which appears to made from a heavy cotton material
with some internal rubberised lining. This heavy duty bag would probably
stop ionising radiation from a nuclear blast if you happened to be in the
wrong place at the wrong time ;-) It certainly stops any infrared light.

So, by all means give KJP a call on their direct mail order line:

Tel +44 (0)8706 030303

Let us know what they say about their bags regarding suitably for infrared use.

The only other option is to keep your eyes open at camera swap meets/fairs
for an old timer which still has intact rubberising - probably the correct
term here is vulcanisation.

Beam me up Scotty......

All the best,
