Actually, for about $50 you can get a tank and the chemicals needed to
develop your own. If you have a bathroom to load the film into the tank,
you're ready to go.
You will probably need a custom lab to get the film developed. The "no
errors" aspect is not an issue, because they will develop the film according
to a chart, as opposed to how you shot the film (they may listen if you
explain how you want the film developed).
Personally, I wouldn't risk giving my film to a lab. I've heard too many
horror stories.

If you are talking about infrared films, then a filter is almost necessary.
Certainly, you can shoot HIE without a filter, but the visible light will
overwhelm the infrared and your results will be somewhat like Tri-X.
