I checked the www.aimcolor.com web site today. He has a fantastic FAQ which lends information on several films besides Kodak HIE. He has this to say about the much maligned Ilford SFX:
"ILFORD SFX is Exceptional! It is the most versatile of the Ilford films. It is touted as having infrared qualities but while you can shoot with a 25 red filter, it doesn’t have the look or feel of true infrared. There is only a mild change with the filter. Other than that it has beautiful qualities. Its high red
sensitivities creates a stunning smooth image quality. SFX is to be shot @ 200iso, or 250. Higher iso's increase the contrast. As with the HS-kodak-infrared, shoot the SFX @ 100iso when using the 25R filter. Put your filter on the camera, use a hand-meter, and meter without the filter."
And here are his recommendations for Kodak HIE:
"HIGH SPEED INFRARED Nothing else to say here. Same results as the neg version, beautiful infrared image in chromes. Due to the nature of this film, it does not color/tone well. It will always lean to the neutral side. With a 25red filter on the camera, USE A HAND HELD METER, meter without
the filter. Shoot H/S Infrared @ 200iso."
It's curious that he makes no mention whatsoever of Koncia IR 750.
I would be curious to know if he uses the meter in incident or reflected mode. I plan on doing a run of Ilford SFX 200 as well as conventinal Ilford FP-4+ and juding the results. I will post the images to my website as soon as they are done.
