A example of Kodak 620 the rest of the world used 120 they thought that they would have more profit if the made a bigger film spool allso 828. I loved Kodak back in the late 40's and early 50's. I remember the day a rep gave me a new film 2 rolls of trx 200 asa what a wonder 200 asa. I know Kodak must make a profit. You work for Ilford do they make money .? I get a lot from Ilford. What do I get from Kodak now OOO

I work for Ilford and I've been reluctant to sign on to this group because I
don't have time to read all the posts. This talk about Kodak really riles
me. Its true that Kodak used to do a lot of things just to be nice. I can
recall, as a photo student, receiving pounds of free literature, just for the
asking. The Kodak catalog used to list all kinds of esoteric stuff, from
abrasive reducer to "Y" surface paper. Its hard to imagine they made any
money on these products.

But we are in a different world now. Kodak's digital products are not ready
for prime time and in "conventional" photography Fuji has all but buried them
in the professional market. People I know--good people--have been forced
into early retirement by this turn of events. Given these circumstances
Kodak's current management has the nerve...the gall to insist that what they
sell be profitable.

I've used 4x5 IR film since 1973 and if it goes by the wayside I'll be as
sorry as anyone (although I've gotten beautiful results with the Maco 4x5).
But given the very small market, the pinhole problems and fact that it has to
be manufactured in total darkness (which drives up the cost and makes Q.C. a
pain) I'll understand if they discontinue this product. Now if they stop
making Kodachrome I might not be so forgiving....

As for the Konica film, the market is obviously small since they make it just
once a year and the amount they coat is based on preorders.
