Inford Ink-Jet Inks

Hi,

I have recently heard from my lab about Ilford producing a
'quadratone' set of inks for monochrome ink-jet reproduction. I
believe this is part of a pro inkjet system. This page
(http://www.ilford.com/html/us_english/pr/9911_Extreme.html) details
some of it.

What I mean here by quadratone is the use of four different inks with
different shades of grey so that a black and white image looks
better. This is how it's done in really good books

I spoke to an Ilford rep - who tried to persuade me to use SFX - but
what he said sounds very interesting.

Although the Ilford system is being designed for labs with expensive
large format printers, it seems that they will sell the inks in
bottles. Now if we can use this ink in ink-jet refills we might have
a way of producing really good black and white inkjet prints of our
lovely infrared shots.

Has anyone tried this any other way - or have experience of Ilford's system?

Incidentally, the lab I use, Downtown Darkroom in London, has done me
some absolutely astounding prints on archival filbre-based paper
(they do Lith as well). Since they print for Anton Corbijn and Lord
Snowden I feel in good company. If anyone wants their contact
information then mail me - or I can post it. They will also D&P
infrared in D-76 and produce contacts (including 'enlarged' contacts).

Dont forget http://www.atsf.co.uk/ilight will you?

Andy
