No, x-rays have no more affect on infrared film than regular film.

I would DEFINITELY NOT ask them to handcheck it.  They may want to open the
cannisters, then get suspicious when you don't want them to.  Just put it in
with your other carry-on luggage and leave it at that.  I've done this often
without any problems.
