RE: Demise of HSI
We use a couple of different IR camera's (and a old IR handheld viewer) but
no digitial equpiment yet mainly due to their price (most of the money we
spend has to go on equpiment and materials for the Conservation of the Art
Works).
We have the small and protable Sony TRV with the nightvision . Not realy
that great but we needed a video camera anyway so it seamed to make sense.
The main one we use in the studio however is a Grundig 'Videcon' (?) with a
B+W 094 filter on the front. This is good, we get a reasonable image onto a
TV screen and can focus down to about 1cm, helpful when you are trying to
read a very small signature. Although I have been unable to get any
definate figures from Grundig (they no longer make this camera) I have been
told it see's upto about 2,000nm maybe a bit more. It is certainly the
'strongest' IR image I have seen, and works very well for us.
The Old IR vewier is normaly borrowed by myself these day's when taking IR
photo's. No one seams to realy want to use it when there is a new video
camera they can use instead. I am OK with this as I quite like the look the
Phosphorus screen. This also gives a better aproximation for HSI/HIE I have
found than the Sony Video camera. I think it was made in the mid to late
seventies but still works well.
If anyone want's any more info mail me.
