Re: Maco IR films

Although I haven't used the 4x5 yet, I wouldn't recommend rodinal, unless
you want fairly large grain. I doubt that it would be as large as HSI. X-tol
is my favorite and I develop my 35mm the same time for both Maco and HIE, it
may be the same for 4x5 (YMMV).

But I'm afraid you will be disappointed at using a red 25. Using a red 25
seems to me like a normal black and white with a red filter. No real IR
effect. I got a filter from Clive at CoCam that's about a 89b and that
worked fairly well, but I had to expose it much longer (it's a much darker
red). This may make it difficult for portraits. Maco asserts that their 820
film is compatible with Kodak, but I believe that is a little misleading. At
least it's apparent that their film sensitivity curves don't match. Kodak is
much more responsive with a red 25 than Maco.

Check out Marco's site that he just posted and compare for yourself:

Good luck,
