Nikon D1 and Coolpix 990
Here is a great site that shows digital IR images taken with a Nikon D1
camera. Some really cool resutls are obtained by using two polarizers.
The results look like EIR false color IR images:

Someone asked if the Coolpix 990's IR blocking filter could be removed by a
Nikon Service Technician. Although I haven't personally done this I've taken
apart quite a few cameras and camcorders and removing IR blocking filters is
a fairly easy task. However the problem comes with switching between IR and
regular pictures. One would have to buy a permanent IR blocking filter from
Edmund Scientific or Rolyns Optics or Mellos Giots inorder to switch between
regular and IR shooting. Depending on the camera the CCD may also have to be
moved slightly to compensate for the focus shift.
