I have notseen this with my Elan, but I have seen very slight marks with the A2 like what you decribe.  Geta roll of 120 or 220 film backing paper and tape it over the pressure plate, this will stop it completly.  Many cameras show occasional marks from the pattern on the pressure plates.  The Pentax K1000 and several older Minolta manual bodies are the most common cameras to have problems.  Minolta even sells a flat pressure plate for some of their cameras.

 I tried using my Elan II with Kodak HIE and the fogging didn't interfere with
 the image at all.  However, I found that I occasionally get an oval area that
 shows up in the lower right hand corner of the image.  The shape matches a 
 cut-out in the pressure plate.  Have you seen this with your Elan?
