Question about EIR
- From: "Bert P. Krages" <krages@xxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Question about EIR
- Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2000 15:37:12 -0700
This is a question directed mainly to Roland since he has sort of started a
color thread on a list that mostly discusses black & white films but anyone
should feel free to respond. I have been shooting a fair amount of this
film after acquiring a reasonable stockpile at a reasonable price (Roland,
I forwarded your earlier message to someone I know who loves EIR but not
the typical price).
I have had two problems with EIR. The first is with sharpness. I can
normally get excellent prints up to 11 x 14 from daylight type transparency
films (e.g., Provia F) but find that EIR gets marginal even at 8 x10.
Experimentation suggests that my equipment gets the best sharpness at f/16
but the problem remains. Is there anything that can be done to improve
sharpness with EIR?
The other problem is with scratches. Some rolls I get scratches and some I
don't. I have gotten long lengthwise scratches from a lab I no longer use
but occasionally get short horizontal scratches from a lab that usually
gives perfect results. Any theories regarding the origins of the scratches?
Finally, I think it would be good for users to discuss interesting things
to photograph with EIR. My favorite subjects are rivers and creeks on
overcast days. The water is usually rendered a deep cyan and the
vegetation varies from light to dark magenta. Another subject that
sometimes works is decaying logs and foliage. When this works, the logs
are rendered as a vivid amber and the vegetation as magenta.
Thanks.
