Scouting cotton with EIR

After a couple of tornadoes, a hail storm, a sand storm, and 10
inches of rain (all in 5 days), we had a sizeable percentage of our
cotton crop that was severely damaged or dead. As part of our effort
to distinguish between the damaged cotton and the dead cotton, we did
on-the-ground spot checks with EIR a week after the storm to see
where we could see plant activity. Sure enough, areas that looked
similar to the naked eye looked very different to EIR, and the areas
showing more IR reflectance have since greened up.

I'm familiar with using aerial and sattelite IR imagery to asses crop
condition, but am not familiar with any work being done at the plant
and plat level. Can anyone direct me to references that might help us
make this a regular part of our scouting regimen?
