I'm sure he's a very experienced web designer, but he should look at
the number of systems still being sold with 15" monitors, not to
mention legacy systems with 13" and 14" monitors, users with old eyes
who use 800X600 or even VGA mode, or users who simply opt to run a
browser in a smaller window. 800X600 seems to be the norm, and
there's an argument to be made for 640X480. A large screen can handle
small pages better than vice versa.
