Dave:

Everyone seems to do it a bit differently but here is what works for
me. Forget the meter and ISO. Assuming you are using a red (25) filter
shoot Kodak HIE at f11 @ 1/125 on a bright sunny day. Bracket plus or minus
one stop. Develop in D-76 straight (undiluted) for 8 min at 24 degrees C
(75 F) or use the HC-110 recommendation given by Kodak. You will get at
least one and probably 2 good negatives from each set of 3. Less exposure
usually means less grain.
The reason I don't worry about meters and ISO is that the amount of IR
radiation varies with the time of day, time of year, latitude and probalby
other things as well. Your light meter can't read IR nor can it tell you
the ratio of visible to IR, so why bother?
If you want to shoot in non-sunny conditions try opening up one half
as much as you would for "regular" film (Tri-X, TMax, etc). There is still
plenty of IR on an overcast day.
You will get lots of recommendations, this has worked for me for many
years. Hve fun!
