When to inspect roof?

PalmIR Pro demo unit arrived for me to try.  I'd like to look at a few roofs
with the unit this evening.  Its about 100 degrees here today; can someone
give me a general idea how long I should allow the rooftop to cool before
trying to get an image?  Should the roof surface be cool to the touch?

I'm sure I'll learn all this at the level 1 course, but I need to evaluate
the camera now.
