newish

I thought that, after lurking here for a bit and admiring everybody's knowledge and work, I would attempt to introduce myself.

I've taken pictures for a hundred years. I was VERY happy out there, selling an occasional pic to the local papers and going out on assigment for a local ad agency and some small magazines (and I do mean small) - them lost my vision in my dominant eye because of a vitreous hemorrhage. I tried taking pictures with my left eye, but it wasn't the same. The hemorrhage would heal, they said, and it did. It took over a year.

While I was waiting out the eye problem, I was diagnosed with a cancer and spent 5 months in treatment. All told, about a year and a half on the shelf. Nobody will hire me right now - can't blame them, I've been unreliable - which oddly enough liberates me to do my own stuff. Y'all know - the kind of stuff that we push to the back of our minds so frequently. So, off we went to Santa Fe last month to take pictures of ghost towns. Wonderful!

By the way, two weeks after my release from Sloan-Kettering, I bought a new camera - my first autofocus (Nikon F100). It's a kick of a camera. I'm not giving up my old F3s, because they're such incredible workhorses. soon, I'll drag out my medium format stuff, but I'm having too much fun with this little sucker. I've started to experiment with new (for me) film - Agfa Scala, Ilford Delta, and two IR films. My work is changing - becoming more abstract. I've showed some stuff to some people and they've been kind about it.

So, it's a new life I'm working on. I'm going to be asking this group some fairly primitive and stupid questions, so please bear with me. I won't whine too much.

Thanks!
