Thanks everyone for your comments.

The minimum circle can be calculated easily: it's the diagonal of a
6x6 frame, IOW the square root of (56^2+56^2) = 79.2mm.
For a 6x7 lens like the Mamiya 37mm it's (56^2+69.5^2) = 89.3mm
(actual circle is 92mm, just to give you an estimate of calculus vs
reality)

I was more interested in the size of the fisheye circular image on
4"x5" rather than the useful image circle which may well be 79.2mm
from your calculations or slightly larger in reality

There are a number of lenses which have massive circles of
illumination but have much smaller useful image circles.

Anyway, it seems that I am about to find out myself as I have bought
one of the Arsat 30mm lenses which will be used initially on an old
1940's Agiflex converted for Pentacon/Kiev88 lenses. Attaching the
lens to a 4x5 Speed Graphic will be the next step if the image circle
size makes it worthwhile.

Ben's comments about resolution (14lpmm at the edges!) and potential
digital stitching success were welcome as the deciding factor in
deciding to go for the lens.

All that's required now is some Maco 120 roll film.
